New Writing Worlds 08, Human:Nature brought together some of
the world’s best writers on nature in a series of events and
readings in Norwich from June 15-20, and in Reads and Writes
sessions across Norfolk throughout May and June.
Is our relationship with the natural world past the point of no
return, or can we write a new ending to the story? Featuring the Nobel Laureate novelist J.M.
Coetzee, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet C.K.
Williams, acclaimed nature writers Mark Cocker and
Richard Mabey, US wilderness writer Gretel Ehrlich, the first Welsh
National poet Gwyneth Lewis, and many more, Human:Nature brought
together Norfolk's two areas of expertise - Creative Writing and
Environmental Studies - to see what they have to offer at a time
when the world's environmental questions have never been more
urgent. Comprising of a week of events from 15-20 June, and Norfolk
Reads and Writes over May and June, we worked in partnership with
the RSPB, the EDP, The Foyle Foundation and Norfolk Library and
Information Service. Human:Nature Blog Norfolk Reads and Writes, May-June 2008 Featured poet Mimi Khalvati (
The Meanest Flower), nature writer Mark Cocker (
Crow Country) and novelist Susan Fletcher (
Oystercatchers) in free Meet the Author sessions at
libraries across Norfolk and Creative Writing sessions at RSPB
nature reserves. BookCrossing We launched the Reads and Writes programme by releasing a flock
of books into the wild. One hundred books about Norfolk, nature and
the East of England were set free for you to pick up, read and
pass on to someone else.
