Polesworth Poets Trail - Artist Commission

The Polesworth PoetS Trail (Ppst!) aims to create a poetry walking trail that enhances local pride through a celebration of contemporary poetry.  Ppst! also aims to revitalise the poetry tradition of Polesworth by acknowledging the presence of poets/writers such as Michael Drayton, Ben Johnson, John Donne and some say William Shakespeare among others who spent time in the village Polesworth over 400 years ago.

This commission is for the first installation on the trail.  This commission must showcase two poems on or within its structure.  The first poem is ‘The River Anker’ by Warwickshire Poet Laureate 2007/08 Jane Holland.  This is a contemporary response to Michael Drayton's 'Clear Anker' which will also be incorporated into the installation. The poems are attached in the full brief.

Fee: £6000.00

The feature/installation must be of an original design and in keeping with its village location.  It must be a response to the poems and showcase them in a readable fashion.   The artist/maker will be expected to create 3 rough designs for community consultation.  The winning design will be decided through open consultation & the artist will then be expected to create the final piece.

Proposed site: The outdoor feature will be installed near the River Anker in Polesworth. Please see photo in full brief.

Function:  The piece may have a function if the artist can create one but is not prescribed by this brief.
