Mslexia’s 5th Annual Women’s Poetry Competition Open

Carol Ann Duffy has been named as the judge of Mslexia’s 5th annual Women’s Poetry Competition. Ms. Duffy is the author of numerous publications including The World’s Wife, Rapture and, most recently, The Hat. She is the recipient of multiple awards from the Eric Gregory to the Whitbread and T.S. Eliot prizes, and is a perennial presence on school reading lists.

Daneet Steffens, Mslexia’s editor, says: ‘It’s wonderful to have such a prominent female poet judging our 2008 competition. We anticipate that Ms. Duffy’s broad appeal will attract poets of all ages, abilities and disciplines. What a terrific way to celebrate our fifth anniversary.’

Mslexia’s prestigious and highly successful competition continues to provide a showcase for both established and emerging poets.

The prize is open to entries now, and the closing date is April 25th 2008. The winners will receive a top prize of £1,000; second prize of £500; third prize of £250; and 22 other finalists will receive £25 each. All 25 winning entries will be published in the summer issue of Mslexia. Poems may be in any style, of any length, on any subject. The entry fee is £5 for up to three poems and there is no limit on the number of entries.
