2008Discover the Secrets of Sitcom writingEver started one but got stuck halfway? Do you feel you have the
potential to “write comedy” but can’t get a handle on the format?
Then this is the course for you.
This course will take you through the entire process of
situation comedy, from initial concept to full first draft.
You will work on character building, story structure and dialogue,
studying successful shows, and the chance to see your work
performed by professional actors! Writing breaks between
sessions give you the perfect opportunity to develop your own
project, so that by the end you will not only have a good
understanding of the format, but also a calling card script of your
own.
Taught by Jenny Lecoat, an ex stand-up comic who is now a
professional comedy and drama writer, she has fifteen years
experience in television. Jenny has written for BIRDS OF A FEATHER,
THE CATHERINE TATE SHOW, EASTENDERS and HOLBY CITY to name but a
few. In addition to the successful workshops she has run for New
Writing South, she has also taught at the Arvon Foundation and
London Film Academy.
