2008QUEER WRITING BRIGHTONThis November in Brighton will see the presentation of two new
creative writing activities: a day masterclass for LGBT writers at
Brighton Writers’ Centre and a queer-themed live literature and
creative debate night at Jubilee Library.
The month’s activities will start on 15 November with a Queer
Writing Workshop with celebrated local LGBT poets, and directors of
Queer Writing South, Maria Jastrzebska and John McCullough. They’ll
look in-depth at the relationship between sexuality and writing,
help participants to explore some of the implications in their own
practice, and then produce their own original fiction and
poetry.
This will be followed on 27 November by at QWS special evening
at THE SOUTH’s Write Club at Jubilee Library. Write Club is an
informal live literature and debate night, with fiction and poetry
readings and an emphasis on audience involvement. The night
will feature a range of readings by LGBT writers, of both poetry
and prose, and some lively debate on the concept, and the need, for
a queer bookshelf.
Maria Jastrzebska comments: ‘Following the hugely
successful launch of our anthology, Whoosh!, this summer, Queer
Writing South has seen a big expansion of its network of local LGBT
writers - this new series of events aims to provide them, and those
new to the organisation, with a forum for discussion, debate and
creative production’.
