A One-Day Workshop
Are you a published children's author, poet or illustrator who
would like to visit schools and share your work with children?
Class Act Agency is organising a one-day workshop for
professional writers who want to visit schools.
During the day you will learn how to make the most of your
school visit, from your first contact with the school, through
speaking or performing in assembly and running workshops, to
selling your books at the end of the visit.
The morning session covers performing for children and
delivering workshops in schools and gives you a chance to make a
presentation to the rest of the group to demonstrate and improve
your performing skills in a supportive atmosphere. The afternoon
session provides practical advice on how to make contact, how to
ensure the school makes the most of your visit, understands what
will happen and is properly prepared, how to decide what to wear,
how to recognise and avoid the pitfalls that others have
encountered, the best way to sell your books to pupils, parents and
teachers and how to find the coffee in any staff room!
Best-selling children's author and poet Roger Stevens will lead
the course and guide you through the day so you leave feeling ready
to go back to school! Roger visits around fifty schools a year and
receives feedback such as:
‘The children and adults thought Roger was great! His
books have become very popular. A great performance; very witty and
enthusiastic...Highly recommended.’ Willesborough Junior School
