The Next Stage
Norwich Arts Centre, Friday 8th May 2009, 8-10pm
"It’s a guilty pleasure watching people’s faces when they see
our acts and realise that poetry isn’t all about long, serious
recitals in a dusty library. This is poetry for everyone. It
reaches out and makes them laugh, think, feel. Sometimes sneeze.
But never yawn.’" Tim Clare
On Friday 8th of May, our five bright talents from the world of
live literature will be presenting 20 minute extracts of their work
in The Next Stage, a unique event taking place as part of the
Norwich and Norfolk Festival.
Tim Clare, Helen Mort, Molly Naylor, Dean Parkin and Hannah
Walker are all displaying the fruits of their year as Escalator
Literature winners, where they were mentored by stars of the spoken
word scene and supported with Grants For The Arts bids and
professional development workshops.
On the night you can expect to see a showcase of diverse
performances including Tim Clare’s piece exploring his quest to
discover performance's lost innocence in the underground world of
the open mic night, and Molly Naylor’s
Let There Be Glamour, a humourous, confessional
exploration of her twenties, set against the backdrop of classic
films.
