Liisa Laing (Wong Fellow 2001) graduated with a degree in Anthropology & Political Science from the University of Western Ontario.  She went to Thailand in 1989 and worked with an international development agency helping Thai sex workers, and with a documentary film-maker.  Later she became a radio journalist and presenter before taking up the David Wong Fellowship at UEA to work on her novel about the Thai sex industry.   On her return to Thailand after the Fellowship she worked as a freelance writer, editing academic papers and narrating documentaries.
