Caroline Dawnay joined what was then A D Peters at the end of the 70s, and inherited a list of mostly academic clients from a departing colleague. Since then, she has built a list of clients which has included novelists and non-fiction writers. Her main objective is to find writing of real quality that stands the test of time and will go on earning commission for the agency. She also represents a number of interesting estates including those of C S Forester, Hilaire Belloc and Nancy Mitford. In the 90s, she was for three years President of the Association of Authors’ Agents, the body which regulates agency practice.
